How to Replace Fuel Pump for Cummins Engine

 

This instruction will show you guide on how to do fuel pump replacement for cummins engine.

 

Preparation:

Steps:

Remove all the fuel lines.

Remove control linkage.

Remove fuel shut off solenoid

 

NOTE:A diesel engine cannot tolerate dirt or water in the fuel system.A tiny piece of dirt or a few drops of water in the injection system may stop your unit.

Clean all external surfaces of the injection pump, including all line connections and fittings that are to be disconnected.

Clean the area around the injection pump gear cover to prevent dirt from entering the crankcase.

 

Removing the Fuel Pump

Locate TDC for cylinder number 1. Push the TDC pin into the hole in the camshaft gear while slowly barring the engine.

To prevent damage to the timing pin, be sure to disengage the pin after locating TDC.

Loosen the CAV injection pump lock screw and position the special washer, then tighten the lock screw against the pump drive shaft.

Torque Value:7 N·m  [5ft-lb]

 

3/8 Inch

Loosen the Stanadyne DB4 fuel injection pump lock screw and position the special washer.Tighten the lock screw until contact is made with the fuel injection pump drive shaft.

Torque Value:12 N·m  [9ft-lb]

The special washer on the Bosch injection pump must be removed so the lock screw can be tightened against the drive shaft.

Torque Value:30 N·m  [22 ft-lb]

Remove the gear cover access cap.

Remove the nut and washer from the fuel pump shaft.

Pull the fuel pump drive gear loose from the shaft

 

Caution:Do not remove the control lever.The lever is indexed to shaft during pump calibration.Removal of the lever will alter the fuel pump calibration and effect engine performance.

NOTE:Do not drop drive gear key when removing pump.

Remove the three mounting nuts.

Remove the fuel pump.

It is important to service the air cleaner system at regular intervals for good engine performance and long service life.

The large air cleaner element(outer) must be replaced when the red ring shows in the window of the condition indicator. DO NOT remove the inner filter.

Service as follows:

1. Loosen the clamp on the dust cup(Fig. 44, Item 1). Remove the dust cup and the element. Remove the rubber boo(Fig. 44, Item 2) and empty the dust cup.

2. Clean the inside of the filter housing so that element has a smooth surface to contact at the seal(Fig. 44,Item 3) from corrosion, especially if the Bobcat loader is used in a fertilizer application.

3. Install the outer filter element. Replace the inner filter element(Fig. 44, Item 4) every third time of servicing or if the red ring still shows, in the indicator window after replacing the outer element.

4. Install the dust cup and tighten the clamp.

5. Push the button, at the condition indicator (Fig. 43, Item 1),to remove the red ring.

6. Check that the hoses and the clamps are tight.

How to Replace Filter Element for Bobcat 753

 

It is important to change the air filter element only when the service code (on the instrument panel) shows the symbol.

Service the air cleaner as follows:

Remove the dust cover wing nut and the dust cover

Remove the wing nut holding the large air filter element

Remove the large filter element.

Note: Make sure all sealing surfaces are free of dirt and debris.

Install the new filter element and tighten the wing nut.

Install the dust cover and tighten the wing nut.

 

Check the air intake hose for damage. Check the air cleaner housing for damage. Check to make sure all connections are tight.

 

Only replace the inner filter element under the following condition:

Every third time the outer filter is replaced.

When the service code shows the symbol, only after the outer filter element has been changed and the engine speed is at full RPM.
